The Email Modules
There are 3 email modules, the Read Words Track, the Write Words Track and the Reading Track.
You follow them sequentially, but they are cumulative, so over the 3 modules you will be introducing your
chosen group to all the tracks and so continuing to work on all the previously introduced tracks.
How they work
You work with a group of 3 or 4 pupils for at least 45 minutes each week. You sign up and start working with your group
on the first module as soon as you get the materials. We're very supportive; there is always telephone support and we'll even talk you through
your first session with pupils before you look at the first email if you'd like us to!
The emails ask you to read a section of the manual, work with your pupils and then write a reflection of the work and
answer some very practical questions. You then get a personalised response.
Why they work
If you've read the rest of this site, you'll know that there are 2 major requirements for the
Tracks teacher: to put some fairly detailed techniques into practice, and to make judgements about what to do at each
teaching point with each of the pupils in your groups.
The day courses can't introduce all the techniques - there are too many of them and they are too detailed.
If you do the email courses the work is spread out over at least 18 weeks and the practical experience
makes the techniques come alive, and therefore more easily remembered.
Many teachers find the judgements we make about moving pupils forwards and backwards surprising. The personalised email responses
to the reflections provide a model of both: how we move pupils through the Tracks, and which techniques to use, and when.
